PASSING THE TORCH – A Tribute to Canada’s Military The Friends of Crysler's Farm Battlefield will be hosting a one-day MILITARY TIMELINE event, "Passing the Torch 1750-2010” on July 10, 2010 at the Crysler’s Farm Battlefield site adjacent to Upper Canada Village. This year marks the 65th anniversary of the end of WWII, and all veterans of Canada and her Allies here will be honoured at this event. There will be two World War II battle re-enactments, near the Battlefield Memorial next door to Upper Canada Village. The crowd pleasing artillery race will be returning along with vintage military vehicles on display. Weather permitting WWII military aircraft will present a fly-past. Re-enactors portraying the military of WWII will take part in two battles - Saturday afternoon (1:30 p.m.) and Saturday evening (7:30 p.m.) on the grounds of Crysler Memorial Park next to Upper Canada Village. Many of the units taking part are re-creations of the actual regiments that fought in Canada and overseas in the various time periods. The rattle of rifle and automatic weapons will be punctuated by the roar of artillery, revving truck and armour engines as the two armies depict engagements from the troubled times of WWII when the Allied armies fought the Facist Regimes of the world. The Friends of Crysler's Farm are honoured to recognize the contribution our veterans have made on this 65th anniversary of WWII and are/will be welcomed at the event. The camp will also feature a period blacksmith and several period vendors. Admission per battle is just $5 per adult (13 years of age and over) and $2 for children (5 to 12 years of age), children under 5 are free. A day/evening battle pass is available for $8 per adult and $3.00 per child. The Friends of Crysler's Farm Battlefield are committed to preserve and promote the memory of the stirring victory of Joseph Wanton Morrison's Anglo-Canadian army on November 11, 1813, a crucial moment in the history of Upper Canada that marked the end of the most serious attempt of the time to invade Canada. The Friends work in partnership with Upper Canada Village and the St. Lawrence Parks Commission in creating the annual re-enactment event at Crysler’s Farm Battlefield National Historic Site.
